Which herbs could help with nausea due to chemotherapy?Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of chemotherapy. Black Horehound (Ballota nigra) and German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) are particularly helpful herbs. Both are relaxants to the intestinal area. German Chamomile, often called the "mother of the gut", has relaxing, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, and pain relief actions that are effective but gentle enough for even a child. A tea can be made with either of these herbs by infusing a teaspoon of the dried herb in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes. Ginger tea, made by simmering a teaspoon of the chopped fresh root in a cup of water for 15 minutes, is also effective in relieving nausea and vomiting, but because of its stimulating properties, is best taken with food or sipped by the tablespoon.
