A gift from the gods! Wherever this succulent journeyed from its native Madagascar, it earned a reputation as a divine treasure, a medicinal gift from the gods. Names such as "hoja santa", "life plant", and "miracle leaf" hint of its power. Goethe, the renowned German poet and playwright, was so captivated by it that he gave visitors baby plants to take home. Traditionally, it is used for a wide range of ailments, from asthma, coughs, headaches, inflammations, infections, and bruises, to hypertension, diabetes, kidney stones, arthritis, rheumatism, and joint pain. Modern research supports many of these uses, particularly its uses for anxiety, restlessness and sleep disorders. Easy to care for as an indoor plant in any bright window.
